Yama:
Once thought to be peaceful and loving, he slowly became more evil according to many traditions. Some say he was the first man born and found the path to heaven. As punishment he was turned into death and the lord of hell. His other titles include 'King of the Dead' and his direction is South.
Yama is not without compassion however, and those brave enough to face him have been lucky enough to win back the dead. Hint: It helps a lot if you ask for more children by the same lover and so on.
Of course keep in mind he swallows molten copper twice a day to attone for his many sins.

Yami (aka Yamuna):
Sister to Yama and ruler over all women in hell. She judges the dead with him and sends them to the deserved end. That would be anything from a heaven, a hell, or to be reborn. Together with her brother she is seen as a gaurdian of the teaching.
She is often seen as the first woman to die, and her brother's lover.
But in some cultures she is seen as a pure innocent who so mourned her brother's death that he is allowed to visit her once a year. It is said the river bearing her name came from her ceaseless tears at losing her brother.

Yamantaka:
Yama isn't loved or welcome everywhere, so this godly hitman will put him on ice. His name means end or killer of Yama. He favors skull crowns, carrying human corpses, and destroying Yama.
Which means he destroys earthly death. Yamantaka enjoys this so much he is sometimes seen stomping a corpse, often Yama. He will be there right at the door of heaven to welcome the faithful home. Not the gentlest of Buddhas if you're Yama, but a kitten to good folks everywhere.
